BELMONT – When Melisa Foures, Candace Fox, Jaterra Hurst and Kelsey Long came in as part of Susan Yow’s fourth recruiting class in 2010 for the Belmont Abbey College women’s basketball program, expectations were high that they would eventually help the Lady Crusaders compete for a league title.

The Abbey had won 19, 19 and 18 games, respectively, in Yow’s first three seasons and finished no lower than fourth in Conference Carolinas.

When Foures, Fox, Hurst and Long suffered through losing seasons in each of their first three years with the Lady Crusaders, there was little reason to expect much different this season.

Especially when Yow left for a job at former rival Queens over the summer and a new coach was hired with only one year of women’s basketball coaching experience.
