Abbot in front of monasteryOn behalf of the monks of Belmont Abbey, I am happy to welcome friends and supporters of the Abbey Players and the Belmont Community Theater to another season of outstanding productions.

In particular, it is my pleasure to offer congratulations to Simon Donoghue, now in his 40th Season as Director of the Abbey Players. The excellence of our theater program, which is so vitally important for the education of our students, the life of our college community, and the cultural life of the entire region, is due to Simon’s talent and dedicated service. We all owe him a great debt of gratitude for challenging and delighting us, but most of all for mentoring generations of young students.

Best of luck for a good year! Abbot Placid D. Solari, O.S.B.

Chancellor, Belmont Abbey College

THE WOMAN IN BLACK, A Ghost Play

Running for over 26 years in London’s West End, the late Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious stage adaptation of Susan Hill’s suspenseful novel is a thrill-seeker’s paradise! A play within a play, The Woman in Black follows retired solicitor Arthur Kipps as he hires an actor to help him tell the story of a series of troubling events from his younger years, in a bid to put the memories to bed once and for all. Though first skeptical of the actor’s methods, Kipps eventually embraces his part and launches a series of past recollections. The audience is soon gripped by the powerful storytelling that subtly builds an underlying tension ripe for piercing with sporadic and spine-tingling appearances from the cast of characters.

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS UNAVAILABLE FOR FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17. TICKETS MAY BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

Peter and the Starchatcher_infoPETER AND THE STARCATCHER

Ever wondered what Peter Pan’s childhood was like before Wendy met him in Neverland? Rick Elice’s play, based on a best-selling 2006 novel, travels back to Peter’s early orphan adventures, aboard a weather-beaten ship holding precious cargo, and on a magical remote island. The five-time Tony Award-winning Peter and the Starcatcher takes the theatergoers to golden grottoes, deep jungles, and active volcanoes on adventures just as exciting as those in the classic story we all know and love. Recommended for the whole family – ages 8 and up. “An absurdly funny fantastical journey!” – Entertainment Weekly
