Our faculty continue the tradition of personal attention and academic excellence begun in 1876 by the first scholar-monks of Belmont Abbey. Every year, our campus Student Satisfaction Survey ranks “faculty helpfulness” among the highest areas of satisfaction, a clear signal that today’s teacher-scholars place students at the center of the Abbey’s educational mission.

Though diverse in background, training, and classroom methodology, all of our faculty members share a passion for their subjects and for academic excellence. Over 80% hold terminal degrees in their subject areas and all continue to develop professionally through workshops, conferences, research, and publications. They have been awarded national and international fellowships, including those of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Fulbright Exchange Program; they pursue research in Britain, India, and the Middle East; and they engage students in hands-on learning, such as biological research in the Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as a wide range of internship and study abroad opportunities.

The faculty of the college are organized for academic purposes into departments, signifying faculty engaged in a particular discipline; departments typically offer a major. Administrative purposes and the need to coordinate policies require a higher level of organization, which we call the division.

There are four divisions of the faculty: Humanities, Natural Sciences, Professional Studies, and Social Sciences. The links below offer complete lists of the college’s full-time and reduced-load faculty.
