Fr. John Oetgen, O.S.B. Scholarship for Excellence in Theatre

$7,000 per year renewable for 4 years

Eligibility:

The academic requirements for the award itself are flexible, but those who receive the Fr. John Oetgen, O.S.B. Scholarship for Excellence in Theatre will be expected to participate in the work of the Abbey Players, the campus dramatic organization. This will require the student to be in good academic standing each semester. It is not necessary to pursue the BAC Theatre Studies minor to hold the scholarship.

Good for students interested in…

a commitment to theatre, either as a performer or technician. The Oetgen program is a four-year educational and social experience designed to encourage and strengthen students who have an interest in theatre.

Several previous Oetgen Scholars have been admitted to M.F.A. programs at prestigious graduate institutions across the United States based upon their undergraduate work with the Abbey Players, despite the lack of a major degree in Theatre. However, most students use their time as an Oetgen Scholar to enhance their intellects, skills and talents in ways that add to their individual majors.

If theatre was your passion in high school, this is the scholarship for you. Please bear in mind, however, that if you apply for it, you cannot apply for any of the three premier scholarships.
