Belmont Abbey College Scholarships 2008-2009
Honors Fellowship
Value:Students admitted to the Honors Institute will
qualify for the Honors Fellowship.
Recipients of this prestigious award will receive $17,000 in financial assistance.
(Inclusive of all other scholarship and grants offered through Belmont
Abbey College.)
Duration: Renewable for up to four years. Students must
be full time and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.
Eligibility: 3.7 or higher high school grade point
average (unweighted.) 1200 SAT score (with a minimum verbal score of
600). Students must reside on campus.
Deadline: February 1

Felix Hintemeyer Scholarship
Value: $17,000 (Inclusive of all scholarship and grants
offered through Belmont Abbey College.)
Duration: Renewable for up to four years. Students must be full time and
maintain at least a 3.25 GPA
Eligibility: Minimum non-weighted GPA of 3.5/1200 SAT. (Minimum 3.9 GPA
and 24 credits for transfer students. Separate application and essay are
required. Must be an active Catholic leader to be eligible.

Benedictine Academic Scholarship
Value: $4,000 to $12,000 per year ($16,000 to $48,000 over four years)
Duration: Renewable for up to four years. Must maintain at least a 3.0
GPA.
Eligibility: Minimum GPA of 3.0/1000 SAT (minimum of 24 credits and 3.0
GPA for transfer students). Scholarship is awarded automatically to those
who qualify.
Deadline: February 1. Students accepted to Belmont Abbey College after
February 1 will be considered only if funds are available.
Abbey Opportunity Grant
Value: $4,000 to $12,000 per year ($16,000 to $48,000 over four years.)
Duration: Renewable for up to four years. Students must be full time and
maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
Eligibility: Minimum GPA of 2.5/900 SAT (minimum of
24 credits and 2.5 GPA for transfer students). Grant is awarded automatically
to those who qualify.
Deadline: February 1. Students accepted to Belmont Abbey College after
February 1 will be considered only if funds are available.
Abbey Catholic School Residential Assistance Grant

Value: $2,000 per year ($8,000 over four years)
Duration: Renewable for up to four years. Students must maintain at least
a 2.0 GPA.
Eligibility: Minimum 2.5 GPA/1000 SAT. Graduate from Catholic high school
within past 12 months. Separate application required. Recommendation from
guidance counselor, faculty member, or high school administrator.
Deadline: February 1
John Oetgen, OSB, Excellence in Theatre Scholarship

Value: $2,000 per year ($8,000 over four years)
Duration: Renewable for up to four years. Students must be full time and
maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
Eligibility: Any student accepted for admission to Belmont Abbey College
may be eligible to apply for this scholarship. Candidates must submit
resume or list of activities, including theatre experience to the Office
of Admission. Extensive theatrical experience and training are not required.
Far more important is a willingness to participate enthusiastically in
at least two of the five major productions staged on campus each year.
A personal interview and recommendation may be required at the discretion
of the Director of Theatre. A separate application is required.
Deadline: Priority will be given to those applicants who are accepted
to Belmont Abbey College and submit resume prior to February 1.
Board of Trustees Award
Value: $5,000 per year ($20,000 over four years)
Eligibility: Awarded to students who show academic promise
in a college setting. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA
of 2.0 in order to renew the award.
Deadline: Priority will be given to those applicants who are accepted
to Belmont Abbey College prior to February
Sport in the Service to the Spirit Award
Value: $1,000 - $6,000 per year ($4,000 - $24,000 over four years)
Duration: Renewable for up to four years.
Eligibility: Any student accepted for admission to Belmont Abbey College
who has some interest in the connection between sport and virtue. This
may apply to a student-athlete or to a student-non-athlete. The award
recognizes that sport is a vehicle for bringing out the best in the human
person, in direct contrast to the wider culture's perceptions of the cult
of celebrity. Requires a 150 – 250 word written statement on the
applicant’s interest in sports and how it affects a person’s
life.
Deadline: Students accepted to Belmont Abbey College after February 1
will be considered only if funds are available.
*Some students qualify for more than one award, the institution reserves
the right to decide which award to provide.
* Additional federal, state and Belmont Abbey need-based assistance may
be available.
*All students receiving Belmont Abbey College scholarships are required
to participate in 20 hours of community service and attend 10 on-campus
cultural events per year. Additional requirements apply for the Felix
Hintemeyer Scholarship.
*All students applying for any of these scholarships must complete the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (FAFSA). The FAFSA code for
Belmont Abbey College is 002910, www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Federal Financial Aid Programs
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal SEOG-Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
- Federal College Work Study (campus employment)
- Federal Perkins Loan (amounts vary, repayment begins 9 months after
you leave college)
- William D. Ford Direct Stafford Loan Program. Interest rate
is variable and adjusted each year. Repayment begins six months
after you leave college. A subsidized loan is awarded based
on financial need. The government pays the interest while you
are enrolled and during your grace period. An unsubsidized
loan means that you are responsible for interest payments.
- Federal Direct Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS Loans). Loan
funds are available to credit worthy parents of dependent students. These
loans are not based upon financial need and parents may borrow up
to the cost of attendance minus financial aid annually for each dependent
student enrolled in an undergraduate program. The interest
rate is variable and repayment for the PLUS loans generally begins
sixty days after disbursement of the loan.
Deadline: We encourage you to apply for financial aid by the priority
deadline of February 1.
