Belmont Abbey College students are invited to apply for the position of Resident Assistant (RA) for the 2018 – 2019 academic year. Students are encouraged to review the Resident Assistant Position Description before applying. Interested candidates must first submit an application through the Google Form sent out via email. The Residence Life staff will review applications as they are received and, based on the quality of an application, invite candidates to participate in a first round interview. Based on their first round interview, candidates will be invited to participate in a second round interview. The 2018 – 2019 New Resident Assistant application will be available beginning on Monday, February 5, 2018. The application will be a Google Form that is emailed to all traditional students on February 5th. The application will close at 11:59PM on Sunday, February 18, 2018. The Residence Life staff will review applications as they are received and, based on the quality of an application, invite candidates to participate in a first round interview.
First round interviews will be offered on a rolling basis, as applications are received and reviewed. The first round of interviews will take place on February 21 and 22, with a select amount of interview times available. Therefore, candidates are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible, before interview slots are filled.
The application will consist of short answer questions. Candidates will be asked to provide the information on an individual who will provide a letter of recommendation. Letters of recommendation should be addressed to Amanda Bambury, Director of Residence Life. All letters of recommendation must be submitted to the Office of Residence Life by 5:00PM on Friday, February 23, 2018. Letters of recommendation may not be written by students or current members of the Residence Life staff.
For the application, candidates are encouraged to reflect on the following:
- Their understanding of the Resident Assistant position and role.
- How they will advance the mission of Belmont Abbey College as a Resident Assistant.
- How they will provide individual care to each resident as a Resident Assistant.
We encourage you to compose your responses to the application questions in a Word document, then copy and paste them into the online application. Responses should be no longer than 250 words.
The Resident Assistant interview process will include two rounds of interviews. The first round interview will be with a panel that includes members of the Residence Life professional staff and members of the Residence Life student staff (current Head RAs or RAs). The second round interview will be with Ms. Amanda Bambury, Director of Residence Life.
Based on the quality of their application, candidates will be invited to participate in a 30-minute first round interview on February 21st or 22nd. First round interviews will be offered on a rolling basis, as applications are received and reviewed. If a candidate is offered a first round interview, a member of the professional staff will send them an email that includes the location, time, and date (February 21st or 22nd) of their interview. Interviews will be scheduled around students’ class schedules.
Based on their first round interview, candidates will be invited to participate in a 45-minute second round interview. Second round interviews will take place between February 27th and March 9th. If a candidate is offered a second round interview, Ms. Bambury will send them an email that includes instructions on scheduling a time for their interview. Invitations to second round interviews will be sent on February 23rd or 26th.
The offer letter will include the candidate’s housing placement for 2018 – 2019. As much as is possible, a candidate’s preferences for residence hall or demographic (e.g. freshman, upperclassmen) will be taken into account when placing them in housing. At the same time, the professional staff will use their discretion to determine where they feel a Resident Assistant would be most successful and which residents would benefit most from that Resident Assistant.
If a candidate is not offered the position of Resident Assistant, they may be offered a position as either a Reserve Resident Assistant or Alternate. Reserve RAs may be offered the position of Resident Assistant, should a position become available. Alternates will be contacted if a position becomes available and all Reserve Resident Assistants have been promoted to Resident Assistant.
