Job Responsibilities

Belmont Abbey College is currently seeking qualified applications to fill the position of Campus Police Officer. Under the direction of the Director of Campus Safety/Chief of Police, the Campus Police Officer will provide for crime prevention, personal safety awareness programs, and constant attention to the correction of potentially hazardous conditions.  The Campus Police Officer will assure that all persons may participate in life at Belmont Abbey College in a safe and peaceful manner; and receive support, aid, and protection.  This position educates, protects life and property, assures safe and orderly movement about campus, deters criminal activity, and serves the continually changing needs of the community.  The Campus Police Officer maintains all daily documentation required by the department and/or the state.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a graduate of basic law enforcement training in North Carolina and have the ability to acquire and maintain campus police certification in the state of North Carolina.  A valid drivers’ license and a proven ability to handle emergencies efficiently and effectively is required.  Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to adjust to changes in work schedules are a must.  The work environment is a campus setting which may require physical demands such as climbing stairs, walking and standing for long periods of time or those that must be met as part of the campus police certification criteria.  Wearing a uniform is a required.  The work schedule requires odd hours and rotating shifts.

The incumbent must be self-motivated and dedicated to fulfilling the unique needs of a college environment.  The incumbent must demonstrate strong leadership qualities, be able to think independently and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.  The incumbent must be able to understand adolescent problems and have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with different personalities on a daily basis.  The incumbent must demonstrate a positive attitude and positive action through a display of courtesy, congeniality, cooperation, sensitivity, and professionalism.  In addition to the personal characteristics already described, the incumbent supports, embraces, and instills the habit of excellence and virtue to foster the vision of Belmont Abbey College as a Benedictine institution.
