Position Summary

Belmont Abbey College is currently seeking qualified applications to fill the part-time position of Campus Safety Associate. Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the Campus Safety Associate will perform various functions related to campus safety such as secure buildings after hours and open buildings prior to business hours; respond to medical emergencies and fire alarms; issue campus citations; patrol campus to ensure the safety of all college constituents; escort students/employees as needed; interact with faculty, staff, students, and visitors routinely; and perform clerical functions such as complete reports.  The Campus Safety Associate will assist in assuring that all persons may participate in life at Belmont Abbey College in a safe and peaceful manner; and receive support, aid, and protection.  This position educates, protects life and property, assures safe and orderly movement about campus, responds to medical emergencies and fire alarm activations, deters criminal activity, and serves the continually changing needs of the community.

 

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or GED, have a valid NC Driver’s license, and at least three years’ experience as a firefighter/EMT.  Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to adjust to changes in work schedules are a must.  The work environment is a campus setting which may require physical demands such as climbing stairs, walking and standing for long periods of time.

The incumbent must be self-motivated and dedicated to fulfilling the unique needs of a college environment.  The incumbent must be able to understand adolescent problems and have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with different personalities on a daily basis.  The incumbent must demonstrate a positive attitude and positive action through a display of courtesy, congeniality, cooperation, sensitivity, and professionalism.  The incumbent must possess strong oral and written communication skills.  In addition to the personal characteristics already described, the incumbent supports, embraces, and instills the habit of excellence and virtue to foster the vision of Belmont Abbey College as a Benedictine institution.

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma with a minimum of 1 year of security guard experience.  Certification in North Carolina as a Security Guard and a valid drivers’ license is required.  Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to adjust to changes in work schedules are a must.  The work environment is a campus setting which may require physical demands such as climbing stairs, walking and standing for long periods of time.  The work schedule requires odd hours and rotating shifts.
