Emergency Procedures Introduction
The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 clearly states our common goals of safe and healthful working conditions. The safety and health of our employees continues to be the first consideration in the operation of business.

Safety and health in our business must be part of every operation. It is the intent of Belmont Abbey College (BAC) to comply with laws, and to adhere to these laws we must constantly be aware of conditions in all work areas that can produce injuries. Your cooperation in detecting hazards and, in turn controlling them is a condition of employment. The following plans have been written to provide guidelines in safety, to help minimize injuries and illnesses. The plans that are included in BAC Safety Manual are the following: Health and Safety, Hazard Communication, Hazardous Waste, Fire Prevention, Electrical Safety, Emergency Action, Bloodborne Pathogen, and Chemical Hygiene.

The BAC Safety Manual does not include guidelines or standard operating procedures that are job specific for every department. It is recommended that each department develop and implement written standard operating procedures that correlate to jobs that are performed that could result in a physical hazard. The above plans cannot include all working hazards nor to indicate other hazards which may not exist.

The manual provides guidelines to be followed but some conditions may predict otherwise. It is imperative that employees assess situations when following the plans of action. Furthermore, the plans that are included were based on the conditions that occurred during the time of assessment as well as information provided from management. It is recommended that each employee read and review the BAC Safety Manual.
