Belmont, N.C. (October 23, 2018) — Belmont Abbey College announced its Associate Head Coach for Women’s Tennis Emily Raines received MiraVia’s Outstanding Service Award. MiraVia presented Coach Raines with the award at its annual fundraising banquet in Charlotte on October 18.
Formerly known as “Room at the Inn,” MiraVia’s doors first opened in 1994 at a modest home on Weona Avenue in Charlotte where it provided no-fee residential services to pregnant women and their children. In 2012, MiraVia opened its newly constructed 10,000-square-foot residential facility on the Belmont Abbey College campus where the organization continues to provide young pregnant women with resources, counseling and integrated programs. Eight student mothers and their children currently reside there.
Coach Raines has volunteered at MiraVia for two years, offering her assistance with babysitting, emotional support, housekeeping, and day-to-day care.
In recognizing Coach Raines at the banquet, MiraVia Vice President Ben Dolan said, “The staff and residents say that she always shares a contagious smile and never shies away from any task … Joyful, caring, dependable and encouraging– all of these describe [Coach Raines].”
Coach Raines added, “Being involved in this organization, even in a small way like helping with childcare while the mothers are attending class, is a wonderful opportunity that allows me to support these strong, young ladies who have taken the more difficult and selfless path when faced with their unexpected pregnancies. I only hope that the young ladies and staff at MiraVia know that I receive so much more from interacting with them than I could ever hope to give back with my time.”
During its 24-year history, MiraVia has helped over 8,072 women and children with its programs. For more information, visit www.mira-via.org.
