Position Summary
Belmont Abbey College invites applications for the current position of Director of Debate.
Job Responsibilities
The Director of Debate oversees a nationally competitive debate team, competing primarily in IPDA Debate with some overlap in NFA-Lincoln Douglas and/or British Parliamentary Debate. Responsibilities include team instruction and management, tournament coordination and travel, judge recruitment and training, administration of program expenses, knowledge of current events and policy research trends, and campus coordination of the school’s Ethics Bowl team. The team typically competes once or twice monthly from September through April, including Nationals.
Qualifications
The candidate should be familiar with debate tournament procedures in multiple regions and demonstrate previous coaching experience in extemporaneous, limited-preparation debate on a national scale. Experience with carded debate is a plus, as is prior experience at the collegiate level. Adjunct teaching in a discipline appropriate to the candidate’s education is also possible. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
