Position Summary
Belmont Abbey College invites applications for 10-month, full-time, tenure- or non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Nursing position.
Job Responsibilities
Nursing faculty report to the Dean of Nursing. Our professors participate in curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation activities as well as instruction in the classroom, clinical, and nursing lab. Nursing faculty are expected to teach across nursing curricula and actively engage in the nursing department’s governance structure, accreditation activities, and adhere to college and departmental policies. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the ability to provide care across the lifespan. Faculty are also expected to comply with relevant and required training and other requirements to maintain a license, certifications, clinical facility access, etc.
Qualifications
- Must hold a current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina or a Compact state
- a current BLS certificate (HCP)
- Two calendar years’ experience in clinical nursing practice with a preference for those with teaching experience
- Doctoral degree in Nursing, Education, or related field preferred. MSN required.
- Preferred clinical experience in Maternity or Pediatrics.
- Before or within the first three years of employment, must have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to the assignment. This preparation may be demonstrated by one of the following:
- Completion of 45 contact hours of continuing education courses;
- Completion of a certificate program in nursing education;
- Nine semester hours of graduate course work; or
- National certification in nursing education.
- One-year prior teaching in nursing education at the bachelor’s degree level or above is preferred.

Preference will be given to those candidates who can demonstrate 1) a record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and a sense of teaching as a vocation; 2) a philosophy of teaching that supports the approach to education expressed in St. John Paul II’s Ex Corde Ecclesiae; and 3) a strong desire to teach at a liberal arts institution where the academic program is “guided by the Catholic intellectual tradition and the Benedictine spirit of prayer and learning.”
