The Abbot Vincent Taylor Library at Belmont Abbey College has an opening for a full-time Research Services Librarian.
Job Responsibilities
The Research Services Librarian (RSL) oversees and supervises Learning Commons service delivery to students, faculty, staff, and the public. These duties include instructional services, research consultations, collaboration with faculty in online course development and deployment, multimedia applications, and basic library reference and research skills. This position collaborates with the Administrative & Instructional Librarian (A&IL) in managing the effective operations of the Learning Commons within the library organization, and provides secondary support for the work of the A&IL in the oversight of work-study students and p/t library assistants. The RSL has primary responsibility for instructional services and reference service delivery, with the secondary support of the A&IL. This position works with the Director of Library Services and A&IL on strategic planning for library learning technology, and provides secondary support to the A&IL in the development and maintenance of LibGuides, the Alexandria OPAC, the remote proxy server interface, and the Summon Discovery System. The Research Services Librarian is a key spokesperson for the library’s learning technology, information fluency, instructional, and reference needs.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have completed a Master’s Degree in Library Science, or be actively enrolled in such a program with at least one term successfully completed. Any instructional and/or reference experience with academic libraries in higher education is a plus. This position involves exposure to Canvas or an equivalent course management system (cms), with LibGuides experience preferred. Proficiency in web navigation in the context of database research protocols is required, as is experience with Microsoft Office software. Highly desired are knowledge of technology trends for libraries and higher education, and reasonable familiarity with copyright compliance issues. The work environment is a library setting which requires the ability to push a loaded book cart, lift up to 25 pounds, and stand for long periods of time. The position requires sufficient vision and hearing to interact with students and faculty in order to ascertain their needs and then locate and present materials. The work schedule requires rotating shifts each week on an evening or evenings ending at midnight, and flexible shifts including potential Saturday and / or Sunday rotations.
