Become a Resident Assistant!

Overview

Belmont Abbey College students are invited to apply for the position of Resident Assistant (RA) for the 2024-2025 academic year. Students are encouraged to review the Resident Assistant Position Description before applying. Interested candidates must first attend an Information Session about the role in order to gain access to the online application form. The Residence Life staff will review applications as they are received and, based on the quality of an application, invite candidates to participate in an interview. Candidates are welcome to speak with a member of the professional staff if they have any questions or would like to discuss this opportunity further. We look forward to receiving your application!

Application

The 2024-2025 New Resident Assistant application will be available beginning on Thursday, November 16th. Applicants must attend an RA Information Session for an opportunity to apply. The application will close at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, January 31st. The Residence Life staff will review applications as they are received and, based on the quality of an application, invite candidates to participate in a first round interview.

Interviews will be offered on a rolling basis, as applications are received and reviewed. Interviews will take place at the beginning of February, with a select amount of interview times available. Therefore, candidates are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible, before interview slots are filled.

The application will consist of short answer questions. Candidates will be asked to provide the information on an individual who will provide a reference. Reference requests are sent electronically to the individual and will include a short form to complete. References may not come from other students, family members, or current members of the Residence Life staff.

For the application, candidates are encouraged to reflect on the following:

  • Their understanding of the Resident Assistant position and role.
  • How they will advance the mission of Belmont Abbey College as a Resident Assistant.
  • How they will provide individual care to each resident as a Resident Assistant.

We encourage you to compose your responses to the application questions in a Word document, then copy and paste them into the online application. Responses should be in full sentence form and answer the question thoroughly. Responses should be no longer than 250 words.

Interviews

The Resident Assistant interview process will include questions and a conversation piece*. The interview will be with Residence Life student and professional staff members.

Based on the quality of their application, candidates will be invited to participate in a 30 minute interview, taking place at the beginning of February. Interviews will be offered on a rolling basis, as applications are received and reviewed. A member of the Residence Life professional staff will send them an email that includes the location, time, and date of their interview. Interviews will be scheduled around students’ class schedules.

*You will bring a Conversation Piece to your Interview. This is your time to show your creativity! In this Conversation Piece, you will answer ONE of the following prompts:

  • What are your top three values?
  • What are you most proud of?
  • Tell us about your favorite memory while being at BAC.

This creative piece should be no larger than a sheet of 8.5 by 11 paper and cannot include glitter. We will be keeping the creation so make sure your name is somewhere on it. Be prepared to give a brief explanation of your Conversation Piece!

Offer Letter

The offer letter will include the candidate’s housing placement for 2024 – 2025. Professional staff will use their discretion to determine where they feel a Resident Assistant would be most successful and which residents would benefit most from that Resident Assistant.

If a candidate is not offered the position of Resident Assistant, they may be offered a position as an Alternate RA. Alternate RAs may be offered the position of Resident Assistant, should a position become available.
