Position Summary

The Cataloging/Interlibrary Loan Librarian oversees original and complex copy cataloging in all formats adhering to national standards, shared national and international access principles, and network standards for ethical use.  This position oversees interlibrary loan requests in all formats, for both lending and borrowing, and maintains statistics and other analytical studies on both interlibrary lending and cataloging. The Cataloging/Interlibrary Loan Librarian manages inventory and collection analysis, trains and oversees the work of one technical staff person, performs night and weekend front desk work, catalogs foreign language materials, recommends enhancements for library services, maintains knowledge of professional standards in librarianship and computer applications in order to provide best service.

The Cataloging/Interlibrary Loan Librarian manages inventory and collection analysis, trains and oversees the work of one technical staff person, performs night and weekend front desk work, catalogs foreign language materials, recommends enhancements for library services, maintains knowledge of professional standards in librarianship and computer applications in order to provide best service.

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have an American Library Association accredited Master’s Degree with a minimum of 1 year of experience in an academic library environment. Any reading knowledge of foreign languages would be a plus.  This position requires broad general education background, commitment to continuing education, and a commitment to sharing resources. Proven knowledge of (or willingness to rapidly acquire knowledge of) LC classification, MARC formats, subject headings, metadata standards,OCLC principles, use of OPAC, and use of WorldShare borrowing and loaning is required.  This position requires proficiency with statistics, Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to use online search engines effectively. The work environment is a library setting which requires the ability to shelve books of various sizes, lift up to 25 pounds, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and be able to work rotating shifts that include late evenings and weekends.
