Belmont House on Capitol Hill
Restore the Public Square
Restoring the role of faith in the public square.
Belmont Abbey College has taken up the call to defend religious freedoms and restore the public square with three groundbreaking initiatives:
- The Belmont House
- Academic Programs to Promote the Common Good
- Intentional Catholic Residency Program
We take up the call because our nation needs faith.
In the very act of establishing their model of self-government, our Founding Fathers appealed not only to reason and common sense but also to faith in Divine Providence. Faith has always been at the heart of American identity and conviction.
Yet as a culture, do we hold to this foundation?
When faith is devalued and even excluded from the public square, we lose sight of the source of human dignity, the common good, and even Truth itself.

Our society needs bold new efforts to restore the role of faith in civic engagement and public discourse.

The Belmont House
Since its founding in 2021, the Belmont House has quickly become a vital place of fellowship, collaboration, decision-making, and cultural impact on the Hill. With a new, permanent location on 3rd Street, just blocks from the Capitol, we will continue to support and scale lay apostolates, convene thought leaders, create dynamic networks, and provide programs with direct and concrete implications for public policy.

Academic Programs
Our Academic Programs to Promote the Common Good will provide enrichment and rigorous, faithful formation to students across secondary and post-secondary levels. Young professionals in our online master’s degrees in Political Journalism and Government and Political Management will develop skills and expertise across political writing, legislative affairs, campaign management, statecraft, and beyond, infusing American political life with the light of natural law and divine Truth.

Intentional Catholic Residency Program
Adjoining the Belmont House, our Intentional Catholic Student Residency Program will foster community within safe, affordable living spaces for Catholic undergraduates interning on the Hill – inspiring collaborations and invigorating the next generation of faithful leaders.
Why The Abbey?
Since 1876, Belmont Abbey College has formed students in excellence and virtue to the direct benefit of civil society.
Institutes of higher education have always exerted profound influence on American culture and politics, but the Abbey’s founders also catalyzed a dynamic encounter with Catholicism in North Carolina which continues to spread and to bear remarkable fruit. For decades the Abbey has been at the forefront of in defense of religious liberty in North Carolina and beyond. (Nina Shea)
Today we recognize the imperative to restore our culture with a vision of human flourishing in the light of God’s providence. We stand ready to answer this call.
