Major: Political Philosophy & Government
Year: Senior

Rebecca 400x600 1

After I moved here from Italy, I was looking for somewhere that would feel like home. When I came across the Abbey I fell in love with the campus; the people, programs, class sizes, and activities make you feel like you’re part of a family. I joined the Abbey Advocates to show prospective students that there is a place for them at the Abbey too. Along with my major in Political Philosophy and Government, I am getting minors in Pre-law, International Studies, and Modern Languages.

Thomas Thierfelder (Gastonia, NC)

Thomas Thierfelderw 200x300 1

Hometown: Gastonia, NC
Major: English
Year: Junior

Thomas Thierfelderw 200x300 1

Since moving from Hershey, PA, when I was five, I have lived in Gastonia, NC, with my wonderful parents and nine siblings, five of whom have attended the Abbey. When it came to choosing a college, the Abbey was my first choice. Because of its environment, The Abbey was already home by the time I was accepted; the family atmosphere, while on campus, is contagious, friendships are made exceptionally fast, and the school radiates positivity. Aside from majoring in English, I am on the Student Government Association (SGA) board; athletically, I run Track and Field and Cross Country, respectively.

Brandon Przywara (Williamstown, NJ)

I chose to come to college here at the Abbey because of the welcoming community and small class size. I’m a member of the Honors College and majoring in Great Books. I am also involved with the Abbey Players, Campus Activities Board, and the Ballroom Dance Club. I’ve made so many strong friendships here at the Abbey and I love it so much here!

Logan Murphy-Redd (Alexandria, VA)

Logan 200x300 1

Position: Social Media Team Lead
Hometown: Alexandria, VA
Major: Marketing
Year: Junior

Logan 200x300 1

I am a freshman from the DC Metropolitan area, specifically Alexandria, Virginia. I chose to come down to Charlotte and attend the Abbey for my love of small schools and the community here. I also run track and field here at the Abbey and on my visit here, it truly felt like home. No other school I attended struck me as much and I hope with the help of the advocates, we can make sure prospective students feel this way as well.

Advocate4w 400x601 1

Here at the Abbey I am a part of the Hintemeyer Leadership Program, Campus Activities Board, and now Abbey Advocates! Choosing Belmont Abbey was the best decision I’ve ever made. Selecting a school that was over 10 hours away from home and where I didn’t know a single person was certainly scary but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I have met some of my best friends here who I know will last a lifetime, have grown much deeper in my faith, and have already learned so many amazing new things!

Maggie Snyder (Bowie, MD)

Major: Parish and Pastoral Ministries
Year: Senior

Advocate5w 400x601 1

I’m a transfer student at the Abbey going into my second year. Before the Abbey, I went to my local community college for two years. I did this because I graduated high school when I was 16 and was not ready to move away from home yet. After finishing General Education Studies at community college, I began applying to four year schools. I chose the Abbey because of the welcoming community and strong Catholic presence on campus. Coming from a family of ten children, I’ve been blessed to grow up in a loving, faith centered environment. I found this atmosphere extremely present at the Abbey the first time I visited for Scholarship Weekend. I decided to become an Abbey Advocate to continue to foster this welcoming family environment and share my great love for the Abbey with anyone who visits! I am part of the Hintemeyer Catholic Leadership program and I am also part of CAB (Campus Activities Board). I enjoy swimming, swing dancing, baking, music, and hiking.

Maximus Buico (Raleigh, NC)

Position: Tour Guide

Major: Undecided
Year: Sophomore

Here at the Abbey, I am majoring in Economics, am on the Wrestling team, and am a member of the Campus Activities Board. The Abbey encapsulates everything I wanted in a college: small class sizes, competitive athletics, and the Catholic faith. I applied to become an Abbey Advocate tour guide because I wanted to share with others what I love about this place and get as many amazing people as possible–here!

I am a member of the women’s soccer team here at Belmont Abbey. I chose Belmont Abbey because it gave me an opportunity to be a part of a community-based college with an intimate class size. I am excited to have the opportunity to pursue my nursing degree here at Belmont Abbey along with a liberal arts based learning. I have enjoyed the lifelong friendships and amazing relationships I have made with the incredible professors here at the Abbey. I can not wait to meet new prospective students along the way showing them the amazing things Belmont Abbey has to offer!

Sarah McCullers (Raleigh, NC)

Major: Theology
Year: Junior

Sarahw 400x600 1

I am a Hintemeyer scholar as well as a student in the Honors College. I chose Belmont Abbey because I knew I wanted a small, close-knit, Catholic community in college. When I got here that is exactly what I found and that is why I love the Abbey so much. The people on this campus are special and the friendships that I’ve formed are the best I have ever had. I can’t imagine being anywhere else. I chose to be an Abbey Advocate so that I can give back to the college that has given me so much and hopefully bring more people here to love it as much as I do.

I came to the Abbey searching for a small Catholic college to study Theology. However, my first experience with the Abbey was several years earlier when I came to campus on a parish retreat, and I immediately fell in love. I’m a member of the Thomas More Scholarship and love games of all kinds. Some of my favorite things to read are Frisbee and Code. I love it here at the Abbey and as an Advocate I hope to show others just what it was that I fell in love with here.

My favorite aspect of the Abbey is being part of the women’s soccer team as a goalkeeper. I am a Sports Management major because I love being in sports. One thing about college that I love is being able to hang out with my friends every day. Fun fact, my nickname on campus is Diesel! I chose to be an Abbey Advocate because I thoroughly enjoy talking to and connecting with new people.

I am on the Abbey Women’s Volleyball team. While being recruited here introduced me to Belmont Abbey, I chose to attend because of the community atmosphere and the small class sizes that I knew would be beneficial to get the education that I need for whatever career I decide to pursue.

Isabella 200x300 1

I am a sophomore most recently from Phoenix, Arizona, but I spent the majority of my childhood alternating between the mountains of Salt Lake City, Utah and the pastures of the province of Liège in Belgium. I am both a Hintemeyer and Honors scholar, as well as the Secretary of Student Government. I am also the President of the Pro-Life group on campus and a member of the debate team. I aspire to attend law school in the future and chose the Abbey for its small size, which allowed for holistic relationships with professors and the opportunity for leadership roles.

Blake Traylor (Fredericksburg, VA)

Position: Tour Guide

Blake Traylor 400x600 1

I chose the Abbey because of its small size, strong Catholic culture, and the fact that it feels like home. Everyone is so close and friendly at the Abbey, and all of the professors love meeting the students and working with them closely to ensure their success. It is so easy to make a mark on the campus. For example, one of my favorite pastimes is to play board games and I helped to start the Tabletop club on campus! You can also catch me at another of my hobbies: assembling and painting model cars and planes. I fell in love with the Abbey while going on tour, and it’s because of this that I decided to become a tour guide and help others fall in love with the Abbey too!

I am a Hintemeyer scholar here at the Abbey. This program is the main reason I decided to come here for my undergraduate education. I heard about the Abbey from The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College. As a convert to the Catholic faith, it has become an important part of my identity. Consequently, I wanted to come to a small liberal arts college that had strong Catholic values. I also enjoy being near Uptown Charlotte. It is a beautiful city with lots of fun things to do and places to eat. Lastly, I enjoy the small classroom sizes because it allows you to know your classmates and teachers personally. The professors are easily accessible and are more than happy to help.

I grew up in the area of Charlotte and the small-town atmosphere influenced my decision to join the Abbey community. As soon as I set foot on campus I felt like I was at home. I have gotten to continue my passion for reading through my studies and have found a group of friends that share my interest in board games, in fact, I helped to found the Tabletop club here on campus.

I fell in love with Belmont Abbey because two of my siblings have attended and it feels like a second home. I love having the small community where I can know the monks, my professors, and everyone in my class by name. The second I got here, everyone was so friendly and welcoming and there are so many opportunities to fall in love with the Abbey. I enjoy spending my time doing volunteer work and being a part of FOCUS, Campus Ministry, Crusaders for Life, Black Student Alliance, Art Club, and many of the other wonderful programs on campus. I hope you come to find a home at the Abbey the same way I did!

I came to the Abbey to take part in their Honors College Program and to experience their historically strong and inspiring faith. I have had 4 siblings graduate from the Abbey, but not because it was forced on us by our parents; my family came to the Abbey because we saw just how good of a school it really is. That is why I wanted to be an Abbey Advocate, I want people to see the Abbey the way my brother sees it, the way my sisters see it, the way I see it. I want people to experience college at the place I have grown to love and I really do love it here.

I am from Modesto, California. I am a member of the Honors College here at Belmont Abbey and a Biology major. I fell in love with the Abbey immediately on my first tour of the campus. It is so peaceful and inviting with its many tree-lined pathways and lanes, and beautiful Gothic architecture! This, along with the sense of community on campus, and the Abbey’s mission, “That in all things God may be glorified,” solidified in my mind that this is the place for me!
