Meet Dr. William K. Thierfelder
Dr. Bill Thierfelder is in his 20th year as President of Belmont Abbey College, a Catholic, Benedictine liberal arts college, ranked number one in undergraduate teaching by U.S. News & World Report, and nationally recognized for educating and forming students in excellence and virtue. Dr. Thierfelder has helped raise over $150M dollars for facilities, operations, and scholarships during his tenure at Belmont Abbey College.
Prior to his appointment he served as President of the world-renowned York Barbell Company and was a principal and co-founder of the Joyner Sports Medicine Institute. He has also served as Executive Director of the Player Management Group, a sports representation company providing services to professional athletes.
Dr. Thierfelder is a licensed psychologist and received his master’s and doctoral degrees in Sports Psychology and Human Movement from Boston University. He is a former member of the United States Olympic Committee’s Sport Psychology Registry, NCAA Division I Coach, Olympian (did not compete due to injury), National Champion and Record Holder, and two time All-American from the University of Maryland. He is a member of the Sports Faith International Hall of Fame, which includes world-class athletes, coaches, and team owners, such as Vince Lombardi, the Chicago Bear’s George “Papa Bear” Halas, the New York Giants Wellington Mara, and others, and he is a member of the NCAA DII Presidents Council. He is also the author of Less Than A Minute To Go: The Secret to World-Class Performance in Sport, Business and Everyday Life with foreword by Coach Mike Krzyzewski.
Dr. Thierfelder has testified before the United States Congress in matters related to religious liberty. He was born and raised in New York City, is a Knight of Malta, and an Oblate of Belmont Abbey Monastery. He and his wife, Mary, have ten children and live in Gastonia, NC.
