Meet Paul Lyon
Since joining Belmont Abbey Athletics in July of 2005, Paul Lyon has dedicated himself to serving an increasingly large and thriving community of student-athletes and coaches, first through communications and compliance and later by providing leadership for compliance and operations.
In 2012, Paul became Associate Athletic Director, assuming new responsibilities over facility management and day-to-day athletic operations, duties that expanded further as he assumed senior associate leadership. In the Fall of 2025, Paul was named Deputy Athletic Director and began managing both departmental compliance and daily operations. Stepping up to assume the role of Interim Athletic Director in 2026, Paul continues to offer steadfast leadership within the department and service to the college as a whole.
As a member of the larger athletic community, Paul has also served on the NCAA Field Hockey Regional Advisory Committee and, in 2016, was selected for the NCAA Division II Compliance Think Tank, which reviewed and proposed updates to all Division II bylaws. He also serves the college as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
Paul completed his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Elon University in 1999 with a double major in Religious Studies. He earned his master’s in Intercollegiate Sport Management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2011.

Unparalleled Growth
Belmont Abbey College really pushes me not just to be a good athlete, but a good person too. It’s definitely a special place. Almost immediately, you begin to develop a relationship with those around you—from freshman year to senior year and even beyond.
