Pre-Course Orientation
Provides students with all the necessary information for their stay at UCSC: how to organize their course schedule, select courses, find classrooms, and access campus facilities (cafeteria, library, health center and sports service, etc.). Accepted students will meet UCSC student associations and receive their UCSC student card along with a personalized folder of information. Assistance with student visa applications will also be offered.
Semester-Long Courses
Students are required to take 4 semester-long courses for 3 credits each. An extensive range of topics includes business and economics, banking and finance, international relations and global affairs, literature and philosophy, fashion and design, language, and sociology. Pending approval from the registrar and the student’s department chair, all credit hours will be transferred to Belmont Abbey College.

Italian Language Courses
Each student will be required to take 1 semester-long Italian language course (3 credits) and an intensive Italian language course (3 credits). The Italian language courses are especially designed to equip students with the communication skills that they need during their stay and to provide a meaningful introduction to the language and culture of Italy.
Service Learning Program
The Service Learning Program (6 credits) lets students intern at primary and secondary schools in Milan and the greater city area. During the program students will be assigned a mentor who will help develop their planning and communication. Generally, students will work in the school two or three times a week for a total of 8-10 hours. While English will be used during their activities with the students and interactions with other school teachers, the Intensive Italian language course is a prerequisite for participating in the program.
Part-Time Internships
Allow students to undertake a professional experience in a culturally diverse environment with an Italian business. The program provides each student intern with an integrated academic and professional learning experience. UCSC sets up the internship by working closely with each individual student to understand his or her skill set, area of interest, and formation desires.
