The Pell grant provides college funding for students with a high degree of unmet financial need. The 2022-2023 minimum award is $692. The 2022-2023 maximum award is $6,895.

Two types of Federal student loans are available:

A delay can prevent the loan from being credited to your student’s account prior to first-semester tuition due date of July 1. PLUS Loan borrowers at Belmont Abbey College are also required to complete an online PLUS Application and Master Promissory Note.

Recipients must be from certain rural counties, demonstrate both financial need and merit, and plan to attend participating North Carolina colleges and universities. The scholarship is funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation through a grant to the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority. The number of years of scholarship support depends on the degree sought and the number of credits transferred

Golden Door Scholars invests in education and career access for high-performing DACA students. Their approach includes four-year college scholarships for high-performing high school grads and professional development and internship support. Since 2013, Golden Door has awarded scholarships to 45 exceptional students from an applicant pool of over 2,200 students.

College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is a free service of the State of North Carolina that helps students plan, apply, and pay for college. CFNC is a partnership of Pathways, the N.C. State Education Assistance Authority, and College Foundation, Inc. High school seniors from qualifying counties are eligible for up to a $12,000 scholarship ($3,000 per year for four years) to attend participating colleges and universities.

The Cardinal Newman Society is pleased to announce its annual Essay Scholarship Contest. The winning essay writer will be awarded $5,000 toward the cost of attending a college recommended in The Newman Guide.

Scholarships can be need-based, merit-based, or based on things like your hobbies, field of study, ethnicity, religion, and more. You don’t need to be number one in your class or at all.

The ANSWER Scholarship offers moms 25 years and older with school-aged children an opportunity to receive a scholarship to further their educations. Scholarship recipients are provided a volunteer mentor to help with professional development and networking for career development.

Alternative loans are non-federal loans for students. These loans are creditworthy so the student will need a creditworthy cosigner. The cosigner is someone who will be responsible for repaying the loan if the student fails to repay. Students considering borrowing an alternative loan should investigate the terms of the loan prior to applying. Federal loans should always be considered prior to applying for an alternative loan

Federal Work Study is a campus-based employment program. The funds for this program are awarded by the institution. Application for this program is filing the FAFSA.

The Federal Work Study award is for undergraduate students only and is need-based. This fund is not deducted from the student’s tuition bill. The eligible student will be notified by the Human Resource Office of campus-based employment opportunities and will apply and interview for the positions. They will earn minimum wage, which is paid directly to the student on a monthly basis.

Belmont Abbey College participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program in order to make our programs more affordable for veterans. Follow the financial aid process according to whether you’re a first-year student, transfer student or online student.

BAC Yellow Ribbon in the amount of $1,000 per year ($500 per semester) is awarded to veteran beneficiaries who fall under the Chapter 33 program at 100% eligibility status. They must be continuously enrolled full-time to receive this award.

All students who are receiving either the Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty Chapter 30, Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve Chapter 1607, Dependents’ Educational Assistance Chapter 35, or Post 911 Chapter 33 benefits must verify their enrollment to the VA on a monthly basis to receive payments. This verification can be completed on the last day of the month by using either the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) application at the www.gibill.va.gov website, or by using the automated telephone system (IVR) at 1-877-823-2378.

Post 9/11 GI BILL® – Chapter 33:

The Post 9/11 GI Bill® provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.

Transfer of Post 9/11 GI BILL® Benefits to Dependents – Chapter 33 TOE:

For the first time in history, service members enrolled in the Post – 9/11 GI BILL® program are able to transfer unused educational benefits to their spouses or children.

Montgomery GI BILL® – Active Duty (MGIB-AD) – Chapter 30:

The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following your release from active duty.

Montgomery GI BILL®-Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) – Chapter 1606:

The MGIB-SR program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.

Survivors and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (DEA) – Chapter 35:

DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service related condition. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits.

Post-Vietnam Era Veterans’ Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) – Chapter 32:

EAP is available if you first entered active duty between January 1, 1977 and June 30, 1985 and you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate in this education benefit program. Your contributions are matched on a $2 for $1 basis by the Government. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances.

Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) – Chapter 31:

Any veteran with a compensable disability rating of 10% or more is invited to file an application for Vocational Rehabilitation by completing VA Form 28-1900 and submitting it to your local VA Office: Winston-Salem Regional Office, Federal Building, 251 N. Main ST, Winston – Salem, NC 27155.

College Refund Policy: Graduate programs at Belmont Abbey College do not have a drop/add period. Students have until the first day of school to drop courses for a refund. There is no refund once classes have met.

Graduate students may apply for financial assistance by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may file your FAFSA as early as October 1 for the next academic year. Belmont Abbey College’s school code is 002910.

Borrowers must apply and complete an online Master Promissory Note (MPN) before you may receive your loan funds.

REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory academic progress is necessary for graduate students to receive Title IV Federal Funds. This includes completing 67 percent of attempted cumulative credit hours and maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0. Academic progress is evaluated at the end of each semester.

APPEALING TO THE FINANCIAL AID REVIEW COMMITTEE: Students must write to the review committee themselves by the deadline listed in their Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) letter. The following information must be included:

• Description of an extenuating circumstance that prevented the student from meeting SAP (examples: unexpected death or hospitalization of immediate family member, extended hospitalization or medical condition of student, victim of natural disaster or violent crime. (Work conflicts, time of classes, and issues with professors are not considered extenuating circumstances.)
• A plan of action explaining what the student will do to resolve the circumstances that led to the unsatisfactory academic progress.
• Copies of supporting documentation (doctor’s letter/bills, death certificate, obituary, police report, etc.
• Email appeal letter, with supporting documents attached, to SAPappeal@bac.edu. The appeal must be sent to this email address for consideration.
• The appeal will be reviewed within two weeks of the student’s deadline. Responses may take longer during peak hours. A response will be provided via the student’s Belmont Abbey College email account. The decision is considered final.
