At the Abbey, we believe that in all things God may be glorified. We find this glory especially revealed in the development of the whole person.

We live out our mission of developing the total person, in mind, body and spirit, in many ways – just ask Pope Saint John Paul II!

Sports contribute to the love of life, teaches sacrifice, respect and responsibility, leading to the full development of every human person.” – Pope Saint John Paul II

Our 41 men’s and women’s teams compete in NCAA Division II and have a long-storied history of being competitive in regional and national titles. However, at the Abbey, we believe athletics are about more than just competition. We see sport as a way to develop virtue and promote excellence in all things for our student-athletes.

As Pope Francis said: sports serve as a stimulus to always improve as a person, in all of life’s aspects. Guided by the vision of the Abbey’s Sport Virtue Institute, our Department of Athletics values each of our Crusader student-athletes as a student first and an athlete second, putting our student’s personal development above competitive outcomes.

Our coaches, faculty, and staff continuously encourage academic excellence and virtuous characteristics while strengthening each’s talents and performance. Our commitment to the pursuit of excellence and virtue in our student-athletes has led to us being awarded in multiple years the Messick Award, the highest sportsmanship honor in our conference!

Belmont Abbey College is a place where athletics and glorifying God come together. An opportunity to be a Crusader athlete, while gaining a Catholic, liberal arts education at the Abbey, will help lead you to a “Home Run” of success.
