Belmont Abbey College To Offer Data Analytics and Human Services Degree Programs

June 8, 2022

Belmont, N.C. (June 8, 2022) – Belmont Abbey College shares the launch of two new baccalaureate degree programs, Data Analytics and Human Services. Introducing additional degree programs benefits current students and creates opportunities to serve new populations. Coupled with a core liberal arts curriculum, these majors encourage students to explore their full potential while honing practical skills necessary for a post collegiate career.

The Data Analytics major focuses on giving students key skills to understand their world and make informed decisions and recommendations. Belmont Abbey’s program places a unique emphasis on asking the right questions and what’s important to understand when analyzing a situation. Data analysts have a responsibility to seek truth, and students are taught that through word and example in our major courses. The major is portfolio-based, meaning each course involves hands-on projects that students can use to demonstrate their skills to employers. Graduates of this major might work as a data analyst, programmer, database manager, or strategic consultant.

A Human Services degree from Belmont Abbey College equips students for careers in the helping professions, such as Community Outreach and Social Services. The undergraduate program provides students a base of knowledge and skills needed to ethically assist individuals, families, and diverse communities to function effectively through prevention and remediation of problems in a manner consistent with a Christian worldview.  The program emphasizes theoretical and experiential learning aimed at optimizing human interactions and finding meaningful solutions to problems. Possible career paths for this major include Social Services Caseworker, Community Outreach Worker, Life Coach, Nonprofit Agency Administrator, or Juvenile Court Liaisons.

“Our two new degree programs are designed with the needs of society in mind,” says Dr. David Williams, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty. “At the Abbey, ethics is infused into our curriculum so whether it’s Data Analytics or Human Services, our graduates know how to live responsibly to make a better world for themselves and others.” The first cohort of students will graduate in 2024.
