Job Responsibilities
The Provost is a practicing Catholic who enthusiastically supports and promulgates Ex Corde Ecclesiae and the mission of Belmont Abbey College. Reporting to the President, the Provost is the College’s Chief Academic Officer, providing leadership to all academic and student engagement areas to ensure the institution’s mission. In this role, the Provost advocates for all academic programs and students and provides leadership to faculty and staff in multiple areas to ensure consistent, high-quality standards across the curriculum, academic programs, student experience, and accreditation/data requirements to broad institutional goals. In partnership with the Dean of Faculty, the Provost oversees and is responsible for the College’s academic integrity and provides leadership in long-range planning, budgeting, curriculum, and development of in-person and online undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Provost oversees Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Institutional Research, and the Honors College through the leadership of the respective Vice Provosts/Deans (including the Dean of the Faculty). In this role, the Provost sets strategic direction and action to meet institutional needs, including but not limited to enrollment and net revenue targets for both undergraduate and graduate programs, student engagement and formation, accreditation compliance and data requirements, and Honors College program development.
Qualifications
Candidates must be practicing Catholics who embrace Ex Corde Ecclesiae and have demonstrated successful experience in progressively responsible administrative and educational leadership positions in a college setting. A doctoral degree is required, and evidence of earned tenure in an academic discipline is preferred. The incumbent must have demonstrated successful experience in strategic planning, entrepreneurship, fiscal management, resource allocation, and academic affairs personnel management.
Ideal candidates must be knowledgeable about curriculum design and its application to sound academic management; ability and skill in the design and application of methods for the evaluation of faculty and staff; ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and recommendations; ability to carry out the functions of leadership along a planned program of institutional direction; ability to develop and administer a budget of operations; ability to establish and monitor fiscal accountability within areas of responsibility; and a commitment to shared governance in a collegial environment.
