A competitive debate squad
Members of the Debate Team hone their reasoning and communications skills, then travel to tournaments where they compete against students from various academic backgrounds. The Debate Team experience prepares students to be good stewards and citizens; it is also an excellent tool for those planning to study law or medicine, attend graduate school, or enter the seminary.
Benefits of Debate Team Membership
- Eligibility for a $1,000 stackable scholarship
- Opportunity to enroll in a renewable practicum to receive one credit for the Debate Team
- Travel to colleges and universities around the country, from Vermont to Arkansas

Learn, seek, thrive
Debating for Belmont Abbey College has been the hardest yet most rewarding activity I’ve taken part in this school year. It pushed my limits socially and academically. It has given me the ability to vocalize and communicate my ideas in a concise and understandable manner, in addition to developing the ability to successfully defend something that I believe is right.
