Dr. Christine Basil & The Abbey
Dr. Christine Basil, Belmont Abbey Honors College professor, discusses the key problem she encounters in the youth of today. The essence of the Abbey is rooted in truth, and faculty like Dr. Basil recognize that students today are lonely because they have yet to learn that their own reason can ascend to the truth.
They need intellectual formation, and they need love. There is a deep insecurity in this generation, and at the Abbey, the sense of community and belonging provides them a home. Belmont Abbey stands as today’s college rooted in truth with a spiritual center that gives this generation what it desperately desires.

Promotions Abound
In the past few years, Dr. Karen Price, Belmont Abbey’s Vice Provost and Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, has taken the lead in establishing and reshaping our Center for Student Success.
She has worked with an exceptional team to develop fresh strategies and initiatives for various areas such as the first-year experience, student advising, career services, accessibility services, and tutoring services (including the writing center and STEM learning lab). Moving forward, Karen will be transitioning to become the primary faculty member for our new MS in Data Analytics program. She will still maintain her roles as our main SACSCOC liaison and institutional research lead.

Given these changes, Dr. Tom MacAlester, Vice Provost and Dean of Student Affairs, will now oversee the Center for Student Success. He will continue to advocate for student success and promote excellence in mind, body, and soul. Additionally, we are delighted to announce the promotion of Hannah Ogburn to the position of Assistant Dean of Student Success. Hannah will assume the primary responsibility for managing the aforementioned programs within the realm of student success.
Congratulations to Karen, Tom, and Hannah! They are outstanding and talented members of our community, and we are truly fortunate to have them as part of our Abbey family.
