High School Summer Program
Our 2023 Theme: Honor, Humility, and The Christian Life
GROW IN WISDOM AND FRIENDSHIP
Schola is a week-long summer program for high school students to read classic works of philosophy and literature, engage in group discussions with Honors College faculty, and experience the local culture and recreation of Charlotte, NC.
The Schola program takes place on the Belmont Abbey College campus along with excursions in the nearby area. Students will build friendships together through conversations with peers and professors, time to relax and join in the daily prayer life on campus, and outdoor activities. By the end of the week, students will have grown in wisdom, critical thinking, and camaraderie.

A Look At
The Schola Experience
More about the experience
The 2022 theme of our seminars is Love and Friendship!
Together with our Honors College professors, you will read and discuss works by Plato, Aristotle, St. Thomas Aquinas, Shakespeare, Flannery O’Connor, and others. We chose them because they are classics of Western civilization, they embody the ideas that shaped the world we live in, and they will get you thinking about the realities of love and friendship in a deeper way—which will help you live a happier life.
Our 2022 In-Person program includes activities like whitewater rafting at the U.S. National Whitewater Center, hiking in the beautiful North Carolina Mountains, intramural sports, a talent show, and an excursion in the City of Charlotte. Students can also participate in the spiritual life of the college, including daily Mass, Adoration, and prayer with the monks.
