Belmont Abbey’s Math Discovery Camp
Belmont Abbey’s Math Discovery Camp is a week-long residential summer program for high-school students who want to explore exciting, advanced areas of mathematics while experiencing the joy, community, and spiritual life of Belmont Abbey College.
Throughout the week, students will study under the guidance of Belmont Abbey faculty, engage in hands-on workshops and small-group discussions, explore the beautiful Charlotte, NC region, and build lasting friendships with like-minded students from across the country. By the end of the week, students will have developed their critical thinking skills, increased their confidence, and fostered camaraderie while discovering the beauty and depth of mathematics.

About Belmont Abbey’s Math Discovery Camp
- The camp is designed for rising high school juniors and seniors who are curious about mathematics or considering a future in math-related fields.
- No specific coursework is required; however, students with experience in math or science may receive preference in the admissions process. Applicants from all states are encouraged to apply.
- $900 (Includes one week of room & board, cafeteria meals, field trips, and faculty instruction.)
Payment plans are available.

More About the Experience
Mathematics, from numbers and shapes to abstract objects and algorithms, is the study of patterns. Students selected for the camp will study a variety of topics, including cryptography and modern-day encryption ciphers, linear algebra, number theory, proof techniques, discrete mathematics, and sequences. We’ll explore these areas using puzzles, hands-on activities, and individual research.
Although mathematics is the heart of our summer program, we’ve filled the week with adventure and community. Students will go whitewater rafting at the U.S. National Whitewater Center, join in intramural sports, share their talents in a camp-wide talent show, enjoy a movie night, and explore the charming City of Belmont. You’ll also experience the spiritual rhythm of campus life through daily Mass, Adoration, and prayer with the monks.
At Belmont Abbey College, you’ll learn to appreciate the fundamental laws that reflect the order and beauty of the physical world while exploring how faith and mathematics meet to inspire a more profound understanding. During the Math Discovery Camp, you’ll experience an engaging environment where problem-solving, creativity, and curiosity come together on our vibrant campus in the Charlotte area.
