Public Relations and Media in Motorsport
You’ll familiarize yourself with the principles and practices of contemporary public relations and have the chance to build and develop a motorsport-themed event.
Motorsport Senior Seminar II
You’ll develop a personal portfolio of work and projects to show employers in the motorsport industry. This will include a senior capstone project that will examine a contemporary issue of business in motorsport.
In this major, you will have the opportunity to intern at hundreds of local businesses in the Charlotte area, putting your career on the fast-track.
Abbey Motorsport students have gone to intern with many of the top names in North American Racing, including: the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Daytona International Speedway, DIRT, Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, NASCAR, NASCAR Foundation, NASCAR Hall of Fame, and many more. Our alumni are becoming leaders in the industry holding positions with NASCAR (Justin Swilling, Account Executive, Industry Services), the NASCAR Hall of Fame (Mike Laheta, see below), Chip Ganassi Racing (Andrew Mulhearn & Ian Moye), Jeff Gordon Inc. (Dan Guffey, see below) and RSM Motorsport (Paige French) to name a few. With our new Executive Director, Pat Wood, focused on enhancing partnerships and adding new ones, the Motorsport Management degree is creating real-world business experiences that allow our students to take a giant leap in their careers.
Driving the business of racing
Ten years ago when racing legend Humpy Wheeler brought the idea for an academic program built around motorsport, newly minted President Dr. Bill Thierfelder was intrigued. A decade later the Belmont Abbey College Motorsport Management program has evolved from a field of concentration to a full degree major and has become a viable resource for the racing industry.
More about the experience
Manager Corporate Sponsorships, NASCAR Hall of Fame
“Belmont Abbey truly exemplifies what it means to educate the whole person – mind, body and spirit – and I found opportunities and activities to support my learning, growth and development in all three areas. Having access to professors outside the classroom allowed me to explore areads of interest to me beyond the course curriculum. I think that is something that makes the Abbey unique.”
Director of Social Media and Online Business, Jeff Gordon, Inc.
“Few schools offer such a specialized program that provides access to influential people within that industry. Belmont Abbey’s motorsports management program delivers the unique ability to not only learn the industry but also connect with industry professionals who frequented our classes as guest speakers. At the end of the day, opportunities are about people and relationships. Establishing those vital connections helps lead to a bright future.”
