Belmont Abbey College announces its full accreditation as a Master’s level institution and intentions to increase academic offerings. In the summer of 2021, the private liberal arts college welcomed the first cohort of students in pursuit of a Master in Health Administration after securing initial accreditation authorization from the Southern Association of College and Schools Commissions on Colleges (SACSCOC). Over the next couple of months, a SACSCOC peer review committee evaluated the ongoing compliance with standards and provided their recommendation for full accreditation to the Board of Trustees. This recommendation was recently approved, allowing Belmont Abbey to move forward with strategic plans to offer new masters-level programs.

Students at Belmont Abbey are sharing God’s love with children around the world this holiday season.
In mid-November, students packed hundreds of shoeboxes with donated supplies such as toys, notebooks, and colored pencils. It’s part of Samaritan’s Purse’s Operation Christmas Child, which sends gifts to kids affected by war, poverty, famine, or natural disasters. The effort at BAC is run by senior Marvellous Okonne, who is from Southern Nigeria and received a shoebox when he was 8 years old.
Small Catholic Colleges Thrive Despite Downward Momentum in College Attendance
In the midst of the pandemic, the downward momentum for many four-year colleges and universities has continued to accelerate. Less than half of current high school students plan to pursue college when they graduate. In contrast, small Catholic colleges have seen an uptick in their numbers during this period of national decline.
BAC Faculty Partners with Charlotte Diocese to Facilitate Synodal Church
Sunday, Nov. 14, marks a special moment in the Diocese of Charlotte’s participation in the Church’s worldwide effort to hear from all of its members through a mix of local, national and global conversations on the theme “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission.” Steering the local effort is Dr. Alessandro Rovati, who has been appointed by Bishop Jugis to serve as the official contact person for the diocesan phase of the synod. In coming months, Rovati will be contacting and responding to diocesan groups and others to help them organize local gatherings. He also will facilitate the diocese’s common gathering next June.
