Elizabeth Hill graduated from Belmont Abbey College, as did her two daughters Marie and Tori. Now, they all hold teaching positions at Bessemer City Central Elementary School.
The 2020-2021 school year was one like no other. Belmont Abbey College pushed through to maintain the community and culture that has always been present while still taking steps to ensure the safety of each and every family represented on our campus. And while it might have looked a bit different, it was still a successful year of continued growth from all facets of the Abbey community.
These strides were noticed by The Cardinal Newman Society and they took some time to sit down with Dr. Bill Thierfelder, to take a look back at this academic year at the Abbey.

serving his community as a law enforcement officer after graduating from Appalachian State University (1988). He started his law enforcement career with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office and then joined the Gastonia Police Department. In 2000, Buck joined the Charlotte – Mecklenburg Police Department and retired from CMPD in 2018. However, Buck was not done serving and he decided to continue policing, first at Queens University Police Department, and then at Belmont Abbey College Police Department.
