Minor in Public History
THE SCHOOL OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE
Public history is a field of study that prepares individuals for historical work outside traditional academic settings. Individuals experience history through local communities, museums, oral history, digital content, podcasts, and other expressions. The minor at Belmont Abbey is rooted in the field’s theory and ethics while allowing students to gain practical experience within the classroom. Courses emphasize the academic rigor and group collaboration necessary to public history work. Students will gain a deeper understanding of working with and for communities in pursuit of shared historical understanding.
